Today I popped over to The Worx cafe on the High Street in Redcar to pass on a message from The Boss and to ask a few questions, so I could write a little article on their business. My first question was "What's your most popular dish?" (no messing about in the cut-throat world of reporting) the answer? "Julies home-made quiche".
So, I ordered a slice. Oh my God! I thought Goodswins steak pies were the creme de la creme of lunchtime snacks but this quiche was on a whole new level! Got a big slab of it as well! My culinary descriptive skills aren't the best (but neither are my actual culinary skills come to think of it...I wonder if I worked on one, the other would flourish?) but anyway, just go and get a slice and make your own mind up.
You're probably thinking "so she asked one question, stuffed her face, then left?" Nope. Here's a few more (short and sweet) facts about this little gem of a cafe:
> The Worx opened their cafe in Dormanstown in February 2011 and the one on Redcar High Street in September just gone.
> The Worx in Dormanstown make Parmo's(!!!) every Friday and the place is busy all week, which I think speaks for itself. Cosy too.
> The Worx on the High Street is a take-away cafe and will soon be doing specials such as lasagne, roasts etc. It also doubles up as a paper shop, handy!
So, there you have it. My day as a reporter and food critic has come to an end, but I urge you and all your kin to sample both the parmo and the quiche as soon as possible. Let's support our local cafe's people! Check out the picture of the staff wearing uniforms designed by our goodselves above too. Simple and classy :-)
