Okay, so we're not going to call it the 'Turder' prize as planned. Instead, we're going for the more appropriate 'Redcar Turnip Prize'. If you're not feeling excited already, you will be when I mention the prizes, which aaaaaaaaaaaaaare:
- A turnip. - A 30 x 40 canvas worth £95 (obviously with an image of your choice).
The Rules:
As you know, the real version of this is The Turner Prize (mentioned in my last post) and is based on contemporary visual art (which is usually outlandish and pretty much anything goes). Our version is the same but we want you to milk it for all it's worth. If the title of your work has a pun, even better! (if you want some more ideas, google 'the turnip prize', it's a spoof competition that's already run elsewhere).
Entries will be judged on the following:
1. Lack of effort. 2. Difficulty in working out what the point is, if any. 3. Ability to render the judge temporarily speechless.
Entries will be discounted if:
1. Too much effort has gone into it (no masterpieces please people). 2. It's just too easy on the eye. 3. Someone would actually buy it.
Closing date for the competition is: 17th December 2011. Another great thing is, it's the week before Christmas, so...if you've blown all your cash out on the lash, at least (if you win) your Mam will have a present (the canvas not the turnip).
Right then, that's all I have to say on the matter really. Please send a photo of your work of art and caption with the title of it to: info@redcarurbanarts.co.uk. Don't throw it away either, because if you win, we'll need to see the real thing and you know...for press conferences and what have you.
